Popeyes set to open in Brighton; Basics Furniture & Carpet closing after six decades; new Vietnamese coffeehouse in Lower Allston

  1. Allston-Brighton Food Pantry expected to re-open in June

Allston-Brighton Food Pantry, located at 404 Washington St, is expected to re-open in June. It is currently calling for volunteers.

  1. Basics Furniture & Carpet closing Allston Village location on June 1; continuing online operations

After 60 years in operation, Basics Furniture & Carpet is closing its physical location on 151 Harvard Avenue, but will be continuing online operations from its warehouse in Norwood. 

  1. Vivant Vintage closing Lower Allston location on May 30; opening in Allston Village in late June

The longtime Allston secondhand clothing store Vivant Vintage will be closing its 318 Lincoln Avenue location on May 30. That day, it will be hosting a closing reception party from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M. 

It is expected to re-open on June 27 at its Allston Village location on 151 Harvard Avenue

  1. Phin Coffee House opened on May 18

Vietnamese coffee shop Phin Coffeehouse opened its second location at 20 Western Ave.

  1. Jinjee opened on May 6

Korean barbeque restaurant Jinjee opened at 161 Brighton Ave

  1. Novo Marketplace opened on May 1

Asian food hall Novo Marketplace soft opened on May 1 at its location on 122 Brighton Ave. 

Vendors include Cotti Coffee, Molly Tea, Zhengxin Chicken, Lumi Roll and Bowl, Kopitiam, Huang Ji Men, and others offering coffee, tea, ramen, and international cuisines. The Indonesian restaurant Tasya’s Kitchen is slated to open within the hall on May 25.

  1. Amelia’s Taqueria closed on May 1

Mexican grill Ameliaโ€™s Taqueria closed its location at 180 Brighton Ave. on May 1 after 14 years. The closure comes less than a year after the restaurant reopened in May 2025 following a devastating three-alarm fire in September 2022. Two locations remain open in Somerville and Downtown Boston. 

  1. Popeyes has applied for a license to open at 470 Washington Street

Fried chicken chain Popeyes has applied for a Common Victualler License to open a location at 470 Washington Street in Brighton. The quick-service restaurant would occupy 1,727 square feet within Park Center Plaza, with 7 customer seats, a full rear kitchen, and additional storage and office space in the back.
