What is Allstonia?
Allstonia is making information access more horizontal across Allston.
The idea came out of the workings of the narrative journalism piece, To Call Allston Home. We, having met so many Allstonians — artists, longtime residents, renters, bikers, families — realize that, despite transience, which so often defines our neighborhood, our neighbors still fight for a community where those who want to stay can stay.
Local journalism and information circulation can make our community stronger. We observe that our neighborhood is diverse and, indeed, information and opinions are often siloed.
Thus, our reporting spans:
- Reporting on property and business development, city policies, and community meetings
- Police logs and updates on new construction projects
- Database of mutual aid opportunities, local resources, and upcoming events
- Spotlights on the neighbors, artists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders that make Allston what it is
Allstonia is the future of Allston’s state of information exchange, where community knowledge, celebration, and record-keeping is housed in a space accessible by all Allstonians.
