D-14 New Police Leadership, Police Blotter; 201-207 Brighton Avenue Public Meeting; Development Filed for 1200 Soldiers Field Avenue

District 14 of Boston Police Department Welcomes New Police Leadership

The District 14 branch of the Boston Police Department, which covers the Allston and Brighton neighborhoods, have announced two changes in leadership. Captain Beth Leary will serve as the new District 14 captain, replacing Captain Wayne Lancaster. Captain Leary has been with the BPD for 26 years, most recently in charge of the detectives in Hyde Park.ย 

In addition, Sergeant Ed McMahon, who served as the District 14 Community Service Officer, will retire at the end of this month. In his place, Sergeant Mark Kervin, who is from Brighton, will now serve as the Community Service Officer.ย 

On March 19, Sergeant McMahon provided a final police report to the Allston Civic Association:

  • One robbery in Allston (one arrested)
  • Seven aggravated assault in Allston-Brighton (three arrests)
  • No commercial burglariesย 
  • Two residential burglaries in Allston
  • Two larcenies for motor vehicles in Allston (one arrest)
  • 21 other larcenies (mostly shoplifting and package theft)ย 
  • One auto theftย 

ACA Monthly Meeting Highlights

  • Hanmaru, a Korean restaurant, is seeking a beer and wine license that will be active seven days a week from 11:30 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.
  • Fries B4 Guys is seeking approval to extend their operating hours, moving their closing time from 11:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M.ย 
  • Developers at 170-172 Western Avenue are seeking permits to construct an eight-story mixed use building at 170-172 Western Avenue.
  • Developers at 393 Cambridge Street are seeking permits to construct a seven-story hotel building with 96 rooms.ย 

Enterprise Research Center and Greenway Office Hour on March 30ย 

On March 9, the Boston Planning Department released the draft plan for the Harvard ERC and Greenway. In an impact advisory meeting held in late February, the draft plan is meant to provide a set of frameworks to guide land use, community benefits, and development in the ERC and Greenway. The Planning Department will hold office hours on March 30 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Public comment can be submitted here until April 8, 2026.ย 

201-207 Brighton Avenue Public Meeting on March 31

On March 31 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., there will be a virtual meeting on the development at 201-207 Brighton Avenue. The owners of 201 Brighton Avenue previously filed a project application to redevelop the current site, which is currently a one-story building for Action Bearing Co. (an active business), to a six-story mixed residential and retail building. The project proposes to build 145 residential rental units with 20% of those units (or 30 units) designated as affordable, along with 176 residential biking spaces and 31 publicly accessible bike spaces. There will be no on-site vehicle parking.

90 Braintree Street Re-allocates Underground Parking Spaces to First Floor

On March 17, developers at 90 Braintree Street filed a notice of project change that seeks to eliminate its underground parking, opting to replace those parking spaces with a first-floor parking garage. The project change states that they will accommodate this change for all of its 58 parking spaces using a mechanical stack parking system. In addition, it will partition its 22 affordable units into 13 Inclusionary Dwelling Units and nine voucher units. The project had originally been approved in March 2022 and seeks to build a six story building with 111 residential rental units.ย 

The change is undergoing an expedited process, meaning there will be no public meeting unless requested by a public official. Public comments will be accepted until April 15.

1200 Soldiers Field Road Files for Development of Six-Story Apartment

After filing a letter of intent in mid-February, Thunderdome LLC filed a project notice form to begin the Article 80B large projects review for the development. The development at 1200 Soldiers Field Road will build a six-story apartment building with 58 units and 37 off-street vehicle parking spaces. The development will span over 66,000 square feet, which is over the 50,000 square feet threshold that qualifies it for large project review under Article 80B. Public comment will be available until April 27.ย
